This button is really useful function that allows you to sustain a gear while carrying a load uphill.
Automatic boxes are always trying to find the highest ratio and in the circumstances above you really don't want the clumsiness of using the kick-down on the throttle pedal. So if you use the OverDrive button the box will allow you to hold 3rd gear until you feel the car is ready to engage 4th.
